Pak, India revive talks under Indus Water Treaty after two years

LAHORE (Dunya News) Indus Water Commissioners of Pakistan and India are set to hold a two-day dialogue in Punjab s capital on March 20 and 21 after a lull of two years on Indus Water Treaty.The treaty that was signed 57 years old bounds India and Pakistan to hold a meeting every year however, the authorities did not convene any in the past two years amidst tensions.India had suspended the talks for an indefinite period of time after a terror attack on Indian military ion Occupied Kashmir valley in September 2016.Asif Baig Mirza, Pakistan s Indus Water Commissioner confirmed the round of talks this month and stated that the last meeting was held in May 2015.A terror attack on Indian military had claimed over 18 lives last year in Uri Town of Baramulla District of Indian-held Kashmir. Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister alleged Pakistan of masterminding the attack whereas no probe was conducted.WB to help Pakistan, India to find solution of Indus Water Treaty issueDirector General of Military Operations of Pakistan Army demanded off his Indian counterpart to provide evidence to back it but no substantial proof was handed over.Modi chaired a meeting of chiefs of all three armed forces in the war room in Indian capital following Uri attack and threatened to cut water supply to Pakistan under Indus Water Treaty.
